Firstly I want to say Happy New Year! I ended 2014 and entered 2015 in Paris and I can't believe it has already been a year since that occurred.
After doing 2 units of introductory French at university (and fully appreciating the difficulties of learning another language) I thought I was ready to French in France. Later realising I was very nervous to français and only spoke very basic phrases: "Bonjour! Je voudrais…", "Oui oui!" ,"C'est tout!" and most importantly "Aidez-moi, s'il vous plaît!!!!!". Let's hope now after 4 units of university French, I am much more confident to expand outside of these basic sentences.
Language notes aside, Paris is beautiful.
Many of us possess the romanticised view of Paris, it's the city of love with the grand buildings and the picturesque gardens. I know I have made the bold statement of declaring many cities in Europe as beautiful but Paris is on another level. The media is constantly portraying the landmarks of Paris, we've all seen the Eiffel Tower in countless movies and also cushion covers. We are always reminded of the beauty of Paris even if we have never been there. For me, it lived up to every beautiful expectation. As a very keen tourist, I visited many of the famous monuments and was astounded at them all. Pont Alexandre, Notre Dame, etc. were amazing and the views surrounding it whether it was gardens or roads added to the charm. I loved just sitting at different places and absorbing the views. The only thing that restricted my view was the hoards and hoards of people (most of which were tourists just like me), the only thing stopping myself from moving there. Although I would love to visit again and practice my mild french skillz.
Thanks for reading!!
